The Journal of Economic Development and Village Building (JEDVB) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal publishing original research on economic development, with particular emphasis on rural, local, and community economies in developing and emerging countries. The journal provides an international forum for scholarship examining how villages, communities, and regions pursue sustainable economic growth, improved welfare, and reduced inequality.

JEDVB publishes rigorous empirical and theoretical work using quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods, and welcomes research that produces evidence useful to scholars, policymakers, and development practitioners. Topics within the journal's scope include rural and regional economic development; local and community economies and rural livelihoods; poverty, inequality, and human development; micro, small, and medium enterprises and rural entrepreneurship; financial inclusion and rural finance; agricultural and food economics in the context of development; labour, employment, and migration in developing economies; and public policy, governance, and institutions for local and regional development.

All submissions undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent expert reviewers, and every published article is checked for originality prior to review. The journal adheres to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and its policies on peer review, publication ethics, plagiarism, corrections and retractions, and article processing charges are described in full on the corresponding pages of this website.

As a fully open-access journal, JEDVB makes all published articles freely and permanently available to read, download, and share, ensuring the widest possible dissemination of its research. Each article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).

Focus Areas

JEDVB primarily publishes original research articles. Well-argued conceptual and review articles that make a substantial contribution to the field may also be considered. Full details of manuscript requirements are given in the Author Guidelines.

Who Should Read and Publish in This Journal

JEDVB is intended for researchers, postgraduate students, policymakers, and development practitioners working on the economics of rural, local, and community development, and for authors from across developing and emerging economies who seek an international readership for their work.
